Key takeaways
- You are exit liquidity when your buy lets an earlier holder sell at a profit: insiders, bundlers, snipers or paid KOLs sell, and you hold the coin as the price falls.
- On LIBRA in February 2025, Nansen data showed that 86% of buyers lost a combined $251 million, while 14% made $180 million, Decrypt reported.
- Before you buy, check the top 10 holders, bundled wallets, the dev wallet and the pool size. Mobula treats top 10 holders above 50% and snipers above 20% as red flags.

Exit liquidity is the buying that lets an earlier holder sell at a profit. In crypto, you are exit liquidity when insiders, bundlers, snipers or paid KOLs sell their coins into your buy, and the price falls after they leave. Coin Bureau’s explainer (opens in a new tab) calls it the role of buyers who pay “inflated prices” so early holders can cash out, and many memecoin rug pulls end this way.
How it works
Every sale needs a buyer. A wallet that holds a large share of a small memecoin cannot sell it all at the chart price, because each sale pushes the price down. So it waits for a wave of new buyers and sells into them. Four patterns create that wave.
Insiders hold unlocked supply
Insiders are wallets that got the coin before the public. On LIBRA, Bubblemaps found that 82% of the supply was unlocked and sellable from the start. Insider wallets started to cash out three hours after trading opened (Cointelegraph report on LIBRA (opens in a new tab)). Nansen data showed that 86% of LIBRA buyers lost a combined $251 million (Decrypt explainer on LIBRA (opens in a new tab)).
A bundled launch hides one big buyer
In a bundled launch, one buyer uses many wallets, so the supply looks spread out. On SHAR, a Solana memecoin, Bubblemaps found that 60% of the supply was bought at launch across more than 100 addresses. All of them sent their tokens to one wallet, which sold for $3.4 million. The market cap fell 96.3% in two seconds (Decrypt report on SHAR (opens in a new tab)).
Snipers buy in the first block
Snipers use bots to buy in the first few blocks after launch, then sell when the price rises. On Four.Meme, a BNB Chain launchpad, one sniper bought about 50% of the supply of each Broccoli coin in the same block as its launch. A blockchain developer said the sniper made over $10 million (The Block report on the Broccoli sniper (opens in a new tab)).
Paid KOLs call the coin, then sell
A KOL, or key opinion leader, is an influencer whose posts move prices. In September 2025, ZachXBT published a list of more than 200 influencers contacted for one paid token campaign. He said that about 160 accepted, and fewer than five labeled their posts as ads (The Block report on paid promotions (opens in a new tab)). In October 2026, Bubblemaps alleged that side wallets linked to a pump.fun influencer with about 88,000 followers bought coins before his calls. On average, those wallets started to sell three minutes after his first call. Nobody has confirmed who owns those wallets (crypto.news report (opens in a new tab)).
What to do next
Run this four-point check before you buy a new memecoin. The thresholds come from Mobula’s guide to snipers and bundlers (opens in a new tab). They are rules of thumb, not guarantees.
- Holder share: open the holders tab and add up the top 10 wallets. Leave out the pool and bonding-curve addresses. Mobula flags a top 10 share above 50%.
- Bundles and snipers: look for many fresh wallets that bought in the same block with similar amounts. Mobula flags snipers that hold more than 20% together. Our pump.fun safety checks show where to look.
- Dev wallet: find the dev wallet and check its share and its sells. Mobula warns that a dev wallet that sends tokens to fresh wallets can prepare a hidden dump.
- Liquidity: compare the liquidity pool with the market cap. On WAP, a Solana memecoin, insiders held tokens worth $16.6 million on paper, but the pool held only $310,000. So, Decrypt wrote, they would have to “slowly sell as more investors join for exit liquidity” (Decrypt report on WAP (opens in a new tab)).
GMGN’s token checks show what insiders, snipers and the top 10 hold (GMGN docs (opens in a new tab)). Photon shows the top 10 share and the deployer (Photon docs (opens in a new tab)). See our GMGN review, Photon review and best memecoin trading platforms.

Bottom line
Exit liquidity is your role when you buy what an early holder needs to sell. Insiders, bundled wallets, snipers and paid KOLs all need that buyer, so check the holders, the dev wallet and the pool first. For the scams that end this way, read how rug pulls work.
