Key takeaways
- To paper trade meme coins, use a third-party simulator or a spreadsheet: pump.fun, Axiom, GMGN and BasedBot publish no demo mode in their docs, checked 24 October 2026.
- Axiom has no official paper trading. Tools such as Aped and Ghost Trade are third-party Chrome extensions that use virtual SOL on top of Axiom or GMGN pages.
- Paper trading cannot show real fills, slippage, failed transactions, rug pulls or your own fear, so treat a paper profit as a test of rules, not of skill.
- The next step after paper is a tiny real trade: $5–$10 in the pump.fun app costs about 1.65% in curve and app fees with a referral code, plus the network fee.
- With code lockein you pay a 0.40% pump.fun app fee instead of 0.45%; new app users can get up to $50 matched under conditions, while the budget lasts.

To paper trade meme coins, you need a separate simulator or a spreadsheet, because the main memecoin apps have no demo mode: pump.fun, Axiom, GMGN and BasedBot publish none in their docs. Use paper trading for one to two weeks to learn the buttons and test your rules, then move to a tiny real trade of $5–$10 in the pump.fun app, our best overall memecoin app.
This guide uses only the official docs and store listings, checked on 24 October 2026. We do not publish simulator results, because a paper P&L says little about real trades.
Memecoin paper trading at a glance
| Option | Demo mode? | What it simulates | Cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| pump.fun app | No (none in docs or store listing) | Nothing: every trade is real | 1.25% curve fee + 0.40% app fee with a code | The first real $5–$10 trade |
| Axiom, GMGN, BasedBot | No (none in docs) | Nothing: every trade is real | Each tool’s trading fee | Real trading after practice |
| Chrome extensions (Aped, Ghost Trade and others) | Third-party, on top of Axiom or GMGN pages | Virtual SOL buys and sells at live on-chain prices | Free or paid, varies | Practice on the same screens you will trade on |
| Spreadsheet or notes app | Do it yourself | Your planned entry, exit and size | Free | Testing rules with no install |
| TradingView or Binance Demo Trading | Yes, official | Big memecoins with a listed pair (DOGE, PEPE and others) | Free | Learning charts and orders, not new launches |

Which memecoin tools have a demo mode?
None of the main memecoin trading tools has one. We read the docs of each tool on 24 October 2026:
- pump.fun: the fees page (opens in a new tab), the terms (opens in a new tab) and the App Store listing describe real trades only. The app has Solo and Squad competitions, but they use real trades, not virtual money.
- Axiom: the Axiom docs (opens in a new tab) list spot buys, limit orders, migration tools and wallet tracking, and no practice mode.
- GMGN: the GMGN tutorial (opens in a new tab) covers live on-chain trading only.
- BasedBot: the BasedBot docs describe live trading on 18 chains, with no paper mode.
A MadeOnSol guide comes to the same answer for Solana in general: no demo mode on Jupiter, no practice account on BullX and no simulated trading on Photon (MadeOnSol (opens in a new tab), March 2026). That gap is why third-party simulators exist.
Does Axiom have paper trading?
No. “Axiom paper trading” is a fast-growing search, but Axiom itself does not offer it. We checked the Axiom docs (opens in a new tab) on 14 and 24 October 2026 and found no paper, demo or practice mode.
The tools that people find are third-party Chrome extensions that draw a virtual wallet on top of Axiom pages:
- Aped (opens in a new tab) says it paper trades Solana memecoins on Axiom Pro with simulated fills, live P&L, take-profit, stop-loss and limit orders, “no wallet risk”. Version 0.1.8, updated 19 October 2026.
- Ghost Trade (opens in a new tab) by tdubs.dev paper trades Solana meme tokens on GMGN and Axiom, with points and a leaderboard. Version 1.0.3, updated 31 October 2025, with in-app purchases.
- Others, such as Reps Trading and Simora Paper Trader, have very few users.
Axiom does not make or check these extensions. We did not test them, so we do not rank them. If you install one, follow the safety checklist below. To compare Axiom with real trading apps, read our Axiom review.
How to paper trade meme coins step by step
The method matters more than the tool. A paper trade is useful only when you log it the same way you would trade it.
- 1
Write your rules first
Decide what you buy (for example, coins on the bonding curve with an active community), how much per trade and when you sell: a take-profit level, a stop level and a time limit. - 2
Pick one practice method
A spreadsheet works everywhere. An extension on Axiom or GMGN shows you the real screens. TradingView or Binance Demo Trading suit big coins such as DOGE or PEPE, not new launches. - 3
Log every trade at the live price
Note the time, the contract address, the price, the size and the reason. Add 2% to each buy and subtract 2% from each sell to stand in for fees and slippage. - 4
Follow your exit rules
Sell on paper when a rule says so, not when you feel like it. A trade you skipped or changed counts as a broken rule. - 5
Review after 20 trades
Count how many coins went to zero, how many hit your take-profit and how often you broke a rule. Change one rule at a time.
The 2% in step 3 is our rule of thumb, not a measured number. One pump.fun app trade on the bonding curve costs 1.65% with a referral code (fees page (opens in a new tab)), and real slippage on a fast coin can be much larger.
What paper trading cannot show you
Paper trading teaches the screens and your rules. It hides the parts of memecoin trading that cost the most money:
- Real fills and slippage. A simulator fills at the price on screen. On a thin coin, your own buy moves the price, and a real fill can be far worse. Binance itself says that its demo prices are only “similar to” the live exchange (Binance Demo Mode (opens in a new tab)).
- Failed transactions and network fees. Real Solana trades can fail or land late, and each one pays a network fee. A paper trade never fails.
- Rug pulls and honeypots. On paper you can always sell. In real life a developer can pull the liquidity or block sells. Read how rug pulls work before your first real trade.
- Your own fear and greed. Watching virtual SOL drop 60% feels nothing like watching your own money drop. Most real mistakes, such as panic sells and revenge trades, only show up with real money.
- Fees that add up. Many small trades pay many fees. A paper log without fees looks much better than the real account.
So a paper profit proves that your rules can work on a good day. It does not prove that you can trade.
From paper to real: start with $5–$10 in the pump.fun app
After paper trading, the best teacher is a very small real trade. Put $5–$10 into the pump.fun app and make a few trades with the same rules and the same log. Compare each real fill with what your paper log said.
The pump.fun app is our best overall memecoin app: it is the most fun and the most social. You follow callers and friends, see their callouts and watch Live streams, so you learn how other traders read a coin. Locke trades in it every day. Our pump.fun tutorial shows sign-up, deposit, buy and sell step by step.
What a small trade costs, per pump.fun’s fees page (opens in a new tab) (updated 17 October 2026):
| Trade on the bonding curve | Curve fee (1.25%) | App fee with code (0.40%) | App fee without code (0.45%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| $5 buy | $0.06 | $0.02 | $0.02 |
| $10 buy | $0.13 | $0.04 | $0.05 |
| $100 buy | $1.25 | $0.40 | $0.45 |
The Solana network fee comes on top, and a sell pays the same fees again. Card deposits can add a provider fee: check the total on the quote screen. Our pump.fun fees guide has every tier, including PumpSwap after a coin graduates.
With code lockein you pay a 0.40% app fee (pump.fun calls it the Platform Fee) instead of 0.45%. New app users can get up to $50 matched on their first card deposit if they type the code in the app before that deposit and trade on 5 days within 10 days, while the budget lasts. The match is not available in the UK (Referral Rewards terms (opens in a new tab)). Our pump.fun referral code page has the details.
Start small on pump.fun with code lockein (opens in a new tab)Type lockein at sign-up · 18+ · not in the UK or RussiaWhen you trade every day on desktop or Telegram and want speed, automation and many chains, BasedBot is our best pick for pros. Safety checklist
- Never give a simulator your keys. A paper-trading tool needs no seed phrase or private key. If one asks, uninstall it.
- Read extension permissions. An extension that can read and change data on axiom.trade or gmgn.ai sees what you do there. Use a separate browser profile for practice, with no real wallet in it.
- Install only from the official store listing. Copies of popular extensions exist. Check the publisher name and the update date.
- Open trading apps only from official links. Fake pump.fun apps copy the name and logo. Use our official links page or the App Store and Google Play listings.
- Size real trades from the loss you accept. Your first real trades are lessons. $5–$10 is enough to learn fees, fills and sells.
- Keep SOL for fees. Without SOL for the network fee, you cannot sell or withdraw.
Mistakes to avoid
- Do not paper trade without fees. Add about 2% per side, or the log lies to you.
- Do not trade only the coins you remember. Log every trade, including the ones that went to zero.
- Do not scale up after a good paper week. Move to $5–$10 first and compare real fills with the log.
- Do not trust paper results from other people. Screenshots of simulator profits are easy to make and prove nothing.
- Do not practice forever. After 20–30 paper trades, the next lesson needs real money, in a very small amount.
Bottom line
You can paper trade meme coins, but only with a third-party simulator or a log: pump.fun, Axiom, GMGN and BasedBot have no demo mode. Practice for one to two weeks, then make your first real trades with $5–$10 in the pump.fun app. Start with our pump.fun tutorial.
