Key takeaways
- To buy Base memecoins, you need ETH on the Base network in a self-custody wallet or bot, plus the coin's contract address from an official source.
- Most new Base memecoins start on launchpads such as Clanker, Flaunch, Zora or Ape.Store, then trade on DEXes such as Uniswap and Aerodrome.
- BasedBot is built Base-first and lists 16 networks in its docs, the most of the tools we review; it charges 1% per trade, with 10–50% cashback via code START.
- On Base, BasedBot's docs say transactions are ordered first-come-first-served, so a higher gas fee does not get your buy in earlier.
- Before every Base memecoin buy, check the buy and sell tax, the dev wallet, the top 10 holders and a small test sell; most new coins lose most of their value.
On this page
Base memecoins are meme tokens on Base, the Ethereum layer-2 network from Coinbase, and you buy them with ETH on Base by their contract address. The safe route has three steps: find the coin on a launchpad or a DEX screener, get ETH on the Base network, and check the contract before you buy. We use BasedBot as the main route, because it is built Base-first and also trades on 15 other networks.

What are Base memecoins?
Base is an Ethereum layer-2 network. Its native coin for gas is ETH, so Base memecoins trade against ETH, not against a separate chain coin. Fees are low, so anyone can launch a coin for very little money. That makes Base fast and cheap to trade on, and it also makes it easy for scammers to launch many coins.
Most Base memecoins come from two places:
- Launchpads: a creator launches the coin on a launchpad. Base launchpads include Clanker, Flaunch, Zora, Ape.Store, Creator.Bid, Virtuals Protocol and Base.Meme. Some use a bonding curve first and then move the coin to a DEX pool (the graduation).
- DEX pools: a creator opens a liquidity pool directly on a DEX. On Base, the main DEXes for memecoins are Uniswap and Aerodrome.
BasedBot's supported networks page (opens in a new tab) lists Uniswap V2/V3/V4 and Aerodrome V2/V3/V3.1 among its EVM DEXes, and Clanker, Flaunch, Zora, Ape.Store, Creator.Bid, Virtuals Protocol and Base.Meme among its launchpads.
How to find Base memecoins
You need a source for new coins and a way to filter them. This guide does not list or recommend specific tokens.
- Launchpad feeds: open the launchpad's own site and sort by new or by volume. Copy the contract address only from the launchpad page or the project's official X account.
- DEX screeners: use a DEX screener, filter the chain to Base, and sort by age, volume or market cap. A new pool with low liquidity and high volume is often a pump that ends fast.
- Bot channels: BasedBot's live channels page (opens in a new tab) lists new-token channels for Ape Store, Virtuals, Creator.Bid, Clanker, Uniswap new pools and Flaunch. Each post has a fast-buy button that opens the bot.
- Web app discovery: in the BasedBot web app, the Discover page (opens in a new tab) filters tokens by chain, time period (5m, 1h, 6h, 24h), market cap, volume, liquidity and age. The Pulse feed (opens in a new tab) shows new launches, trending tokens and bonding-curve tokens with a progress indicator.
- Wallet and social tracking: follow wallets you trust with the wallet tracker (opens in a new tab), or see who talks about a token on X and Farcaster with Social Search. Read about copy trading before you copy anyone.
How to get ETH on Base
All Base memecoins trade against ETH on Base, so you need ETH on the Base network, not on Ethereum mainnet.
- From an exchange: buy ETH, withdraw it, and choose Base as the network. Many exchanges, Coinbase among them, offer Base as a withdrawal network. If you choose the wrong network, your funds can get lost.
- From another chain with BasedBot: type /bridge, pick the source chain and coin, then pick Base and ETH. Per the bridge page (opens in a new tab), the bridge moves native coins only, so swap a stablecoin to the native coin first with /wallet > Swap Currency.
- In the web app: the Deposit and Bridge page (opens in a new tab) lists EVM bridge routes from Ethereum, Arbitrum, BSC, Optimism, Polygon and more, plus same-chain swaps between ETH and USDC.
Keep a small amount of extra ETH for gas. Base gas is cheap, but a wallet with zero ETH cannot sell.
How to buy Base memecoins with BasedBot
BasedBot is a self-custody Telegram bot and web app, and it is built Base-first. Its docs (opens in a new tab) list 16 networks, the most of the tools we review, so you keep one tool when you move from a Base coin to a Solana or BNB Chain coin. The bot detects the chain from the pasted address, per the multi-chain page (opens in a new tab). The steps below come from the BasedBot docs. For the full setup, read our BasedBot tutorial.
- 1
Open BasedBot from an official link
Open basedbot.app/r/START (code START doubles your cashback to 10–50%), or search @based_eth_bot in Telegram. Type /start to open the main menu. See the setup page (opens in a new tab). - 2
Create or import a wallet
Tap Wallet or type /wallet, then tap an empty slot. Choose "Create a new wallet" or "Import a wallet" with its private key. Per the wallets page (opens in a new tab), importing into a used slot replaces the old wallet, so save the old key first. - 3
Send ETH on Base to the wallet
Tap the wallet address to copy it and send ETH on the Base network. If your funds are on another chain, type /bridge and move them to ETH on Base. - 4
Configure your Base settings
Open /settings. Turn on MEV protection, which the settings page (opens in a new tab) lists for ETH, BASE and BSC; a shield icon shows on confirmations when it is active. Set your slippage, and turn on Dev Sell if you want the bot to sell when the developer sells. - 5
Paste the contract address and run the audit
Paste the address from the launchpad page or the project's official X account. Tap Audit: the audit page (opens in a new tab) says it shows buy, sell and transfer taxes, Burn %, Clogged % and MaxTx. - 6
Buy and set your exits
Tap a preset amount or "Buy X ETH" for a custom amount. Then set Take Profit, Stop Loss or a Trailing Stop Loss on the token monitor, as the TP/SL page (opens in a new tab) shows. - 7
Sell from /manage
Type /manage, tap the token and choose a sell button or X% for a custom amount. The ❌ button only hides a position; it does not sell.
Base-specific tips from the BasedBot docs
- Gas does not buy speed on Base. The transaction speed page (opens in a new tab) says that on L2s such as Base, ordering is first-come-first-served, so a higher custom gas fee gives no advantage.
- Pro Mode skips the price impact check and can slightly speed up EVM buys. Use it only when you accept a worse price.
- Turbo is for sniping only. The docs warn that it removes all safety nets: slippage protection, price impact, simulation and token checks.
- Sniper is an EVM feature, so it works on Base. The Custom Sniper page (opens in a new tab) lets you filter new tokens by name pattern, factory source (DEX or launchpad), chain and creator address.
- Migration Sniper places a Migration Buy or Migration Sell order on a token, per the Migration Sniper page (opens in a new tab). The docs do not name the launchpads it covers, so check in app for your Base launchpad.
- Cashback on Base comes in ETH. Per the rewards page (opens in a new tab), you claim it with /cashback from $10 per chain.
Alternatives: Banana Gun, Maestro and GMGN
All three trade on Base, and Locke traded on each with real money. Each has a trade-off.
- Banana Gun: its docs list Uniswap, Aerodrome and other DEXes on Base. It charges 0.5% on manual trades and 1% on snipes. EVM trading uses separate registration, sniper and sell bots. In September 2024, an exploit drained about $3 million from 11 users; Banana Gun promised full refunds. See the Banana Gun review.
- Maestro: twelve chains, including Base, with Auto Snipe on Ethereum, BSC, Base and Solana. The fee is 1% with 15–30% cashback, and the bot stores your keys encrypted on its servers. See the Maestro review and Banana Gun vs Maestro.
- GMGN: strong charts and wallet tracking, with an official Base bot, at 1% per trade. You cannot export the private key. See the GMGN review.

How to check a Base memecoin before you buy
Do these checks before every buy. Most of them take less than a minute in a bot or on a block explorer.
- Contract address: copy it from the launchpad page or the project's official X account. Fake coins copy the name and the ticker. Never use an address from a DM.
- Contract on the explorer: open the address on Basescan, the Base block explorer. Check that the contract is verified and look at who deployed it.
- Tax: run BasedBot's Audit for buy, sell and transfer taxes. A 10% tax on the buy and on the sell costs you about 20% on a round trip.
- Dev wallet: check the dev wallet share. BasedBot's web token page shows Dev Holding %, per the token page docs (opens in a new tab).
- Top holders, snipers and bundles: the same page shows Top 10 Holders %, Snipers, Insiders, Bundlers and LP Burned. A few wallets with a large share can dump on you. Read about bundling.
- Sell path: buy a small amount, then sell part of it. If the sell fails, the coin can be a honeypot.
- MEV: turn on MEV protection and keep slippage as low as the trade allows, to limit sandwich attacks.
You can also blacklist tokens and developer addresses in /settings, so the bot blocks trades on them. The full red-flag list and real cases are in our guide to rug pulls.

Open BasedBot with code START (opens in a new tab)Mistakes to avoid
- Do not send ETH on the wrong network. ETH on Ethereum mainnet is not ETH on Base.
- Do not buy by ticker. Many Base coins share a name. Buy only by the contract address.
- Do not raise gas to go first. On Base, ordering is first-come-first-served.
- Do not answer DMs from "support". The BasedBot team never DMs first and never asks for your private key, per its support page (opens in a new tab).
- Do not keep savings in a bot wallet. Keep only trading money there. Read about self-custody.
- Do not open bots from ads or search results. Use our official links page.
