Key takeaways

  • Crypto DCA means you split one buy or sell into equal parts at set intervals, so your entry price is the average of all the parts.
  • On a trading bot, each DCA part is a separate onchain swap: the percentage fee stays the same in total, but you pay the network fee once per part.
  • A DEX limit order on a Telegram bot is a trigger: the bot watches the price or market cap and sends a normal swap when your target hits, so slippage still applies.
  • In BasedBot, type /dca for scheduled buys (BUY only today) and use Orders › Add Order for Limit Buy or Limit Sell by market cap.
  • Of the 12 tools we reviewed, BasedBot, Trojan, BONKbot, Photon and Banana Gun offer both DCA and limit orders, per their docs.

Crypto DCA (dollar-cost averaging) means you buy a token in equal parts at fixed intervals instead of all at once, so your entry price is the average of all the parts. On a DEX, a trading bot runs each part as a separate onchain swap, and a limit order is a trigger that sends a swap when the price or market cap hits your target. This guide shows how both execute, what they cost, and how to set them up in BasedBot.

New to the terms? Read the short definitions of DCA and limit order first. This page gives no return simulations: DCA changes your average price, not the quality of the token you buy.

How DCA and limit orders execute onchain

A DEX such as Uniswap, Raydium or PumpSwap trades against a liquidity pool, not an order book. The pool fills every swap at once at the current price. So "DCA" and "limit" are features of the tool you trade with, not of the DEX.

DCA orderLimit order
TriggerTime: every X minutes, hours or daysPrice or market cap reaches your target
ExecutionsMany parts, one swap eachOne swap, then the order closes

Price you getPool price at each part, minus slippagePool price when the trigger fires, minus slippage
Main riskYou keep buying while the token fallsThe price jumps past your target in a thin pool, or never reaches it

On a Telegram trading bot, the bot holds the order offchain and watches the token. When the time or the target arrives, it signs a normal swap with your wallet key and sends it to the chain. That is why a bot wallet must hold enough native coin for the swaps and the network fees, and why a limit order does not guarantee your exact price.

What DCA and limit orders cost

Every part of a DCA order and every triggered limit order is a full swap. Each one pays three costs:

  1. The bot fee. BasedBot charges 1% per transaction, per its fees page (opens in a new tab). Trojan, BONKbot and Photon also charge 1%; Banana Gun charges 0.5% on manual trades, per our reviews.
  2. The network fee. Gas on EVM chains, or the base fee plus a priority fee on Solana. You pay it once per transaction.
  3. Slippage and price impact. Small parts move a thin pool less than one large order, which is the main practical reason to DCA into a memecoin.

Because the bot fee is a percentage, 1% of ten small buys equals 1% of one big buy. The network fee does not scale that way: ten parts pay ten network fees. On low-fee chains such as Base or Solana this is usually small; on Ethereum mainnet, fewer and larger parts make more sense. Check the cost on your own trade size with our fee calculator.

BasedBot returns 5–25% of your fees as cashback by volume tier, per its rewards page (opens in a new tab), or 10–50% if you open the bot with code START. That cashback applies to every DCA part and every limit fill.

How to set up crypto DCA in BasedBot

BasedBot is one bot for 16 networks, including Base, Solana, BSC, Ethereum, Arbitrum and Avalanche, per its supported networks page (opens in a new tab). The bot detects the chain from the token address. If you have no account yet, follow the BasedBot tutorial to create a wallet and deposit first.

Open BasedBot with code START (opens in a new tab)
  1. 1

    Open the DCA menu

Type /dca in the bot and tap "Create New DCA", as the DCA page (opens in a new tab) describes.
  2. 2

    Choose the token and wallets

Set the token (its contract address) and the wallets that buy.
  3. 3

    Set the side

Choose BUY. The docs list SELL and BOTH as coming soon, so today the DCA tool only builds positions.
  4. 4

    Set the frequency

Pick Classic and set an interval in minutes, hours or days, or pick BUMP mode. You can add a random ± % so the buys do not land at an exact, predictable time.
  5. 5

    Set the amount per transaction

Enter the amount for each buy, with an optional random ± %. Keep extra native coin in the wallet for network fees on every part.
  6. 6

    Check and cancel from /orders

Type /orders to see the DCA order. Tap it to Edit or Cancel, per the orders page (opens in a new tab).

How to set a DEX limit order in BasedBot

BasedBot limit orders trigger on market cap, not on price per token. Limit Buy fires when the market cap falls to your target; Limit Sell fires when it rises to your target, per the limit orders page (opens in a new tab).

  1. 1

    Open the token

Paste the contract address, or tap the token in /manage.
  2. 2

    Add an order

    Tap Orders, then Add Order.
  3. 3

Choose Limit Buy or Limit Sell

Use Limit Buy to enter on a dip. Use Limit Sell as a take-profit exit.
  4. 4

Set the target and the amount

Enter the market-cap target. For a buy, set the amount in the native coin; for a sell, set 1–100% of your holdings. Choose the wallets.
  5. 5

    Wait for the fill

The order executes once, sends you a notification and is removed. Edit or cancel it any time in /orders.

To exit in steps, a "DCA out", set two or three Limit Sell orders at rising market caps, each for a part of the position. You can also use the take-profit, stop-loss and trailing stop loss settings on the token monitor, per the TP/SL page (opens in a new tab). In the web app at basedbot.app, the trading panel also has a limit order by market cap, per the web trading page (opens in a new tab).

The table ranks the 12 tools we reviewed by score. "Not described" means our review sources do not list the feature; check the app before you rely on it. Locke works with BasedBot; it is scored with the same methodology.

Two fair alternatives to BasedBot:

  • Trojan if you trade only on Solana and want DCA, limit orders and SOL cashback in one bot. See BasedBot vs Trojan.
  • BONKbot if you want to DCA out of a Solana position today: its DCA splits sells as well as buys.

When DCA or a limit order makes sense

  • DCA in: you want a position in a token with a thin pool and do not want one large buy to move the price. Keep the plan short on new launches.
  • Limit buy: you want a token only below a certain market cap and accept that the order may never fill.
  • Limit sell or TP: you want to lock profit at a target without watching the chart. Split the exit into parts.
  • Neither: the token fails basic safety checks. No order type protects you from a rug pull.

Frequently asked questions

DCA (dollar-cost averaging) is buying or selling a token in fixed amounts at set intervals instead of in one order. Your final price is the average of all the parts. It lowers timing risk but does not protect you if the token goes to zero.
